PRIVATE FISHING BEAT NOW EXTENDED

We are pleased to announce that, as from the start of the 2012 salmon fishing season, our guests can fish much further upstream too. Instead of being limited to just under 1.5 miles of right bank fishing, our beat includes the neighbouring Carse Mains beat, making a total of just under 2 miles to explore and fish.

The beat here is very attractive and includes a mixture of pools providing fishing with fly, spinning or worming.

A good riverside footpath allows anglers with mobility problems to fish some of the more productive pools without difficulty. Access is via paths leading from the hotel's parking area.

20LB SALMON CAUGHT AT FRIARS CARSE

21st October 2011

A beautiful 20lb salmon was caught at "The Ledges" today by Mr Ashley Nickells - well done!

ANGLING REPORT

at 13th September 2011

At long last we are starting to see the river levels improving and, along with this, the long-awaited fish are starting to make their way upstream through the Friars Carse Beat.

September always sees the start of some good fishing and there have been some 14Ibers caught, one by our regular long term Legacy member Graham Rothwell.

Last week alone produced some eight salmon plus a sea trout! The Farm Pool has produced a couple of nice fish, one at 12.5lb taken on the worm and another in the evening on the fly.

The River is now very high as can be seen on our Webcam. However, there are still the odd slow-flowing dead spots holding a few salmon which isn’t good news for the fly fisherman. Worming or spinning can still be a tricky business too.

As more anglers arrive we expect to see the catches rising and October’s fishing is almost full now so we should see some good results coming in.

Don’t forget – it helps us produce accurate reports if all anglers fill in the catch book when they are returning their completed permit to the hotel reception.

Tight Lines!

FIRST SALMON OF THE 2011 SEASON

Matt Griffin caught his very first salmon in March when he was staying at Friars Carse. And it just happened to be the first salmon caught at Friars this season too!

It was taken using a lure in the Hotel Pool and was estimated to be around 14lbs. It was photographed quickly and then safely returned to the water.

Well done Matt!

ANGLING REPORT

at 30th Sept 2010

Despite the water levels being very low over the past few months there has been the odd day of rain giving short 24hr periods of good fishing when we have been catching some good fresh fish with the largest to date being 15lb.

However 27th September saw the return of the seasons first regular anglers.

And what a week! We had some rain and fresh water and Monday got the week off to a good start with 15 salmon being caught. This continued all week resulting in a weeks total of 36 salmon caught! It was nice to see that not all catches were retained thus helping the conservation of stocks for future years.

We saw a combination of fly, spinning and the worm, although its a shame that, due to the rising water, it has not been suitable for much fly fishing.

2010 has been a very good year so far even the hotel manager caught a 9.5lb salmon, on his day off of course!
